Since I was young , around two years old , my parents would say, I wanted to wear party dresses and black patent leather shoes. I had to have the socks with the ruffles and needed a hat to complete the outfit . In those days , my mom sewed all our clothes, was happy to oblige my fancy little heart and she even let me wear the pretty dresses to play in the sandbox.
Yes , it’s true , I’m not a little girl playing dress up anymore and as a very busy mom and kindergarten teacher it’s true I don’t need to really dress up, well , ever. So , I guess what I’m trying to say is , just as I didn’t need to wear party dresses and lacey socks when I was two, I don’t need to wear dresses and heels to teach kindergarten or make dinner either, but it’s just what I want to do.
Kind of reminds me of this quote I’ve seen around Facebook and Instagram :
I was home sick with pneumonia for the past two and a half weeks. The first few days I was literally in bed and had no desire to get up and get dressed. By the fourth day I had to go back to see the doctor and I was relieved to have an excuse to dress up . I only wore a sweater and leggings , nothing fancy , but honestly I did feel better just because I felt like I was back to my old ( healthier ) self.
Then a couple of days later it was Halloween and I felt that even though I couldn’t go out and enjoy all the activities we had planned , I could still wear my Snoopy shirt .I felt I was at least a little bit getting to celebrate !
So , basically , I tried to put together some outfits each day I was home that were comfortable and kind of cheered me up while I had to be home.A simple tee shirt and blazer :
A comfortable dress and big cozy scarf:
A very soft sweater and leggings :
A maxi – dress and big cozy blanket scarf:
And today , my last day home sick , leggings again and another soft sweater :
And I’m glad I had an actual outfit on for when I had to run to Target for groceries (and leopard booties) :So why do I dress up ? It makes me happy and :
Do what makes you happy! Wear what you want ! Xoxoxo
You always look so beautiful, even when you are under the weather. I’m very glad that you’re feeling better and on the road to recovery.

Interesting, If I am sick, I barely shower… then if I need to go somewhere, even for a recheck, the showering, putting on a little makeup and getting dressed really does make me feel good! Thanks for the article – you really do always look great. Karen

Thank you SO much , Karen ! I really appreciate that . It seems like I always have to justify to people in ‘real life ‘ why I bother . You are so kind to take the time to read and comment !!

I don’t always wear dresses, but I feel better when I have on “real” clothes. My coworkers give me a hard time because I don’t participate in many jeans days. I also hate wearing t shirts and flip flops. My sister is the opposite of me and always gives me a hard time too. I just feel better when I have a polished look going on. And always lipgloss and winged eyeliner 😉

Yes , it’s like that for me too ! And quite frankly I’m tired of having to justify why I choose to dress like I do. I never ever bother or question people on how they dress ! Love you ! Thank you for always being so supportive !!!!!

I make no apologies! I just kind of giggle it off. I’d much rather be caught grocery shopping in in cute clothes rather than jammies like so many other gals. I also believe as teachers we are not only modeling to kids, but to families what it looks like to be a professional.

Thanks for this post. I wear a work uniform every day blue pants and blue shirt. I’m losing my identity being a women and feel and look too manly. I would like to dress up too but have nowhere to go. I’ve even made two dresses and still have not worn them. One day I’ll put on a dress and dress up and go window shopping. Good read.

Girl, I feel ya!! Great post!! I used to wear an ugly uniform every day too (like Patrice–light blue button down and navy cargo pants). When I got my job at the lab, I was told I could wear scrubs or jeans everyday if I want. NO WAY. I am always overdressed and get asked and made fun of some, too, but I gotta be me. I feel so much better if I am wearing a cute outfit instead of a hoodie, jeans, and tennis shoes!! ICK!! Love you, and so glad you’re feeling better! Keep looking fab!
